Fremont is the home town of Tesla’s factory. The sign would reach 40 feet tall, which could be a problem. Billboard rules in Fremont don’t allow for signs over 20 feet tall, but the mayor of the city is hoping the city’s planning commission will make an exception for the electric-car manufacturer, reports CBS News.
If Fremont’s planning commission does approve the massive Tesla billboard, it will feature one of the company’s cars stretched across it and it will be illuminated. The planning commission is expected to vote on the billboard on Thursday, CBS News notes.
Tesla may be able to get its billboard due to some technicalities. According to a Fremont planner, the city’s definition of a billboard states that it “must be for rent, display off-site advertising and be on a site with one use,” which he claims doesn’t apply to the car company’s proposed sign, reports Contra Costa Times.
