Microsoft (MSFT) Recognized for Social Software Leadership

When it comes to the wonderful world of software, Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) has been and probably always will be a leader. There are other companies doing big things in this space, but with the power of Office 365 at its back, you can be rest assured that MSFT will continue to run with the big dogs.

In fact, Microsoft was recently recognized in Gartner’s 2014 Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace.

Microsoft Store Best Laptop DealsAs part of the “Leaders” quadrant, the company has used Office 365, Yammer, and SharePoint to its advantage. While things are going to change within the company moving forward, don’t expect MSFT to back down from its stance as a social software leader.

The Strengths of Microsoft

Not every company succeeds in the same areas. Gartner mentioned three distinct areas in which Microsoft is competing at a high level. These include:

  • Integration: The company continues to integrate components of its software to improve accessibility and overall capabilities.
  • Road map: Microsoft continues to lay out information regarding its future, including the direction it is taking Office 365.
  • Viability: This passage from Gartner says it all:

“Interest in, and adoption of, Office 365 and related Microsoft products are very high.”

In other words, there are a lot of people interested in what Office 365 brings to the table.

Despite its inclusion on this list and its many strengths, Gartner added some points of cautions including: architecture, pace of innovation, and complexity.

Regardless of the industry, company name, or company size, it is always a good thing for an organization to be named a leader in a particular space.

Microsoft continues to prove to the world that it is a dominating force in the social software space. This should continue for years to come, especially when you consider the many strengths outlined by Gartner’s 2014 Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace report.
