BlackBerry Limited (BBRY) has been losing market share in the smartphone space for quite some time. The once dominant company hit a rocky patch, and was buried by the likes of Apple Inc. (AAPL), Google Inc (GOOG), and other top-of-the-line vendors.

Now that CEO John Chen has the company on the comeback trail, many consumers and industry experts are beginning to pay close attention once again … and so are investors.

blackberry-BBYThe BlackBerry Z3 has been a pleasant surprise for the company, with many enthusiasts loving the overall look, feel, and features. However, there has long been confusion about who created the device. Was it the BBRY team? Or did Foxconn take the lead and run with it?

BBRY Is Setting the Record Straight

To set the record straight, Donny Halliwell of the Inside BlackBerry blogs sat down with Brian Paschke to discuss the design of the Z3, including how it came about.

When asked about the design of the Z3, Paschke was quick to clear things up:

“A team of talented BlackBerry individuals worked in close partnership with Foxconn to bring the device to market, and you’ll notice it has a distinct BlackBerry look and feel. This is because the industrial design was created in-house.”

That’s that. While BBRY worked with Foxconn to bring the device to market, it was an in-house team that took the lead on the design.

The Z3 has become a company favorite for many reasons, including the fact that its design is geared toward the user experience. From the tough exterior shell to the precise detail of the speaker and microphone, the team at BlackBerry did not leave any stone unturned when designing this smartphone.

Although the Z3 is set to be overshadowed by the upcoming release of the BlackBerry Passport and Classic, at least it is clear that this device was the brainchild of an internal design team. Kudos to those who brought this smartphone to market.

As of this writing, Chris Bibey did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
