This hack may have allowed them to obtain messages, passwords and other data stored on the company’s devices. The hack was noticed by a security group in China that claims it may have been done by the Chinese government, reports Reuters.

The hacking attacks were reported by two separate security groups and are believed to be reliable. It’s unknown if the attack on Apple’s iCloud is still occurring or not. China Telecom, which hosts the iCloud servers, has denied the accusations of an attack., Reuters notes.

“It’s evident that it’s quite massive,” Erik Hjelmvik, an analyst with Netresec AB, told The Wall Street Journal. “The attack was quite sophisticated in that they apparently have quite a huge system set up in order to be able to intercept on such a large scale.”
