Microsoft (MSFT) has had its fair share of issues with its Windows operating system over the past few years. Windows 8 flopped big time, disappointing millions upon millions of users, as well as investors.

But now the company has regrouped and is hoping for bigger and better things from Windows 10.

microsoft stock, windows 10As MSFT shares hold steady just below its 52-week high of $47.57, investors are hopeful that the final quarter of 2014 results in positive gains. But in order for that to happen, Windows 10 will need to perform at a high level.

There are many reasons to be optimistic, including the following:

  • Windows 10 adapts to other devices used by customers, including smartphones, tablets, and Xbox. A compatible experience is a must, as this boosts productivity while helping the company build a consistent brand.
  • Simplified management and deployment on an enterprise level, making it easier and cheaper for companies to upgrade when the time comes.
  • Upgraded and updated features, including old favorites such as the start menu.

Microsoft surprised many by bypassing Windows 9 and jumping straight to 10. The company feels that this was such a big leap, in terms of performance and functionality, that it warranted the move to 10.

At a recent press event, Terry Myerson, executive VP of operating systems, added the following:

“Windows 10 will run on the broadest amount of devices. A tailored experience for each device. There will be one way to write a universal application, one store, one way for apps to be discovered purchased and updated across all of these devices.”

Microsoft investors strongly believe the company needs to perform at a higher level within the smartphone and tablet markets. The introduction of the Windows 10 operating system will improve the chance of doing just that in the future, thanks to its new “one way” approach.
