Stores that have been hit by data breaches, such as Target (TGT) and Home Depot (HD), aren’t likely going to see as many shoppers this holiday season.

According to a survey from CreditCards.com, 45% of people said that they wouldn’t or likely wouldn’t shop at a store that has suffered from a data breach. However, 52% of those that responded to the survey said it was likely or that they will still shop at those stores, reports MarketWatch.

While customers are still willing to shop at data breach stores, they may not use their credit or debit cards at them. 48% said that they would only use cash at those stores. Those surveyed with a household income over $75,000 said they were less likely to shop at stores hit by a data breach, MarketWatch notes.

“I’m guessing a lot of people have the initial emotional reaction of, ‘Wow, I don’t want to shop there anymore if they’re going to be that loose with that data,'” David Just, professor of applied economics at Cornell University, told NASDAQ. “Your initial response is fear. You feel like you’ve been violated. You don’t know what’s going to happen to your credit.”
