Ericsson and Apple had a deal that had the latter paying royalties to Ericsson for use of technology that the Swedish company held patents for. The deal ended in January and Ericsson wanted to renew it, but Apple declined, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Ericsson claims that it also offered to settle the matter in court. It asked Apple to meet in court to have it decide what a fair agreement between the two would be. The company offered to meet in a Texas court or one in California that AAPL could choose, but the offer was declined. WSJ notes.

The nine lawsuits that Ericsson has filed against Apple include 41 patents. The company claims that its patents are used in a variety of the iPhone maker’s devices and that they wouldn’t be able to operate without them, CNN Money notes.
