Tesla CEO Salary: Elon Musk Gets Paid Less Than $40,000 a Year

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk made $35,360 in 2014.

ceo-salary-tesla-elon-musk-tslaThe Tesla CEO actually got a pay raise last year that allowed his salary to climb to $35,360. His yearly salary for the two years before this was $33,280. He had no additional stock options or bonuses this year. He is also the CEO of SpaceX and likely made a yearly salary there as well, reports USA Today.

Just because Elon Musk has had a yearly salary under $40,000 for the last three years doesn’t mean he’s hard on cash. A stock option in 2012 allowed him to pull in $78.1 million as an award. He also owns 28.3 million shares of TSLA stock, which is currently valued at $6.2 billion, USA Today notes.

According to CNNMoney, Elon Musk has never taken his salary as the CEO of Telsa. The company figured up Musk’s salary based on “annualized minimum wage requirements” in California.
