Project Aura: Google Glass to Get a New Name

The name may change again to Google Aura

Google (GOOG,GOOGL) Glass is now being called “Project Aura.”

Reports claim that Google Glass shifted to being called Project Aura back in June. The team behind the project is working with others at Google and is being lead by Ivy Ross. Members from Amazon’s (AMZN) Lab126 have been added to the team, reports Mashable.

Project Aura will likely result in the next version of the company’s smartglasses, which could end up being called “Google Aura.” There’s already talk that a version of the new smart device has been handed out to several companies, but a consumer version won’t likely show up until at least 2016, Masahble notes.

While Google has chosen not to comment on the name change, there is evidence that it has occurred. Several of the company’s employees list themselves as working on Project Aura on their LinkedIn (LNKD) profiles. Their descriptions stat they are working on Google Glass and possibly other wearables, reports Recode.
