Walmart (WMT) is reportedly planning to cut less than 500 jobs from its home office in Bentonville, Arkansas.

walmart-layoffs-wmtThe Walmart layoffs are expected to be announced on Friday, but news about them was first reported on Wednesday. The retailer has declined to comment on the matter. It’s believed that the layoffs are part of an effort to save money and make the company more efficient, reports Reuters.

Evidence of the Walmart layoffs comes in the form of more employees filing resumes and expected cuts from suppliers. Company CEO Doug McMillon also said that WMT is focused on its stores because there “are no cash registers in the office,” after a June shareholders meeting. The home office employs roughly 18,000 people, Reuters notes.

According to Fox Business, human resource workers at Walmart have reserved several meeting rooms at the company. Some of the department directors that are located at the home office have also been told to cancel travel plans and make sure they show up at the office on Friday.

WMT shares were down 1% as of Noon Thursday.
