General Motors Company (GM) Moves the Chevy Bolt EV Into Pre-Production

General Motors Company (GM) has started pre-production of its Chevy Bolt EV.

The first of several Chevy Bolt EV has made its way down the assembly line. These versions of the car will be used make sure parts fit and dimensions are correct. The car company is planning to start production of retail versions near the end of the year.

General Motors’ Chevy Bolt EV is set for a 2017 release. The company expects the car to retail for $37,500 before tax incestives. Its reported range is roughly 200 miles, which will make it a rival to Tesla Motors Inc’s (TSLA) upcoming Tesla 3, reports Fortune.

“We’re at another critical and important point in the development of the Bolt EV,” Josh Tavel, General Motor’s chief engineer for the Chevy Bolt EV, told Christian Science Monitor. “We’ve moved from working in math, and building cars by hand, to building Bolt EVs on the [assembly] line.”
