India women with mobile devices will be safer starting next year.
The Asian country is adding mandatory panic buttons on smartphones by 2017 in order to reduce the alarming amount of violence against women that exists in India.
The nation’s Department of Telecommunications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted the news, informing the public that the functionality will attempt to be as instantaneous as possible.
Additionally, all smartphones will have a built-in GPS feature by 2018 to find the site of harassment or distress.
