The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned against the use of the FluMist vaccine.

CDCThe AstraZeneca (NYSE:AZN) product uses a weakened version of the virus to make patients immune to influenza. However, the agency has found that the vaccine has proven to be ineffective.

The CDC said that traditional flu vaccines — which contain the dead virus — should still be used. The problem with FluMist is that there is no evidence suggesting its effectiveness.

This advice differs from the CDC’s 2014 announcement, which recommended using FluMist over a regular flu vaccine.

AZN stock is up 2.1% Thursday.
