Pokemon Go - 5 Pokemon Go Accessories to Help You Catch ‘Em All

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you know all about the Pokemon Go phenomenon. And even if you have been chilling under said rock, chances are you’ve had to deal with people clutching their smartphone, searching for a Geodude or Graveler.

If, however, you are one of the millions of people who have downloaded Pokemon Go and are trying to master the game, there are ways to improve your chances. Specifically, accessories.

That’s right, even if Nintendo Co., Ltd (ADR) (OTCMKTS:NTDOY) isn’t going to going to get rich off the Pokemon Go craze that’s currently sweeping the world, some accessory makers are definitely going to see an uptick in sales as a result.

Here are five accessories that will help you dominate those little virtual critters.

Pokemon Go Accessories That Help You Catch Them All: Pokemon Go Plus

One way that Nintendo will make money from Pokemon Go is through sales of its Pokemon Go Plus wearable.

At least it will once the $34.99 accessory actually hits shelves, on July 31.

Players equipped with a Pokemon Go Plus will have the advantage of not having to stumble around staring at their smartphone as they scan their surroundings in search of elusive Pokemon. Instead, the wristband will vibrate whenever one is near and pushing the ball button on the Pokemon Go can capture the Pokemon without having to fire up the smartphone app.

Doesn’t exactly seem fair — like giving someone a speedboat to compete in a rowing competition — but you can bet these things will get snapped up so fast Nintendo is going to become an instant heavy hitter on the wearable charts.

Pokemon Go Accessories That Help You Catch Them All: Pokeball Aimer

If you happen to have a 3D printer at home, an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 and plenty of time on your hands (because those prints don’t happen at the snap of a finger), you could print yourself this handy Pokeball Aimer.

The case snaps over your iPhone 6, providing grooves that ensure your aim is always straight, making it much easier to capture a Pokemon once you find it.

On the downside, the case covers much of the display of your iPhone. But you’re only using the thing as a super expensive mobile gaming system, so it doesn’t really matter if you can’t see your text messages, right?

Pokemon Go Accessories That Help You Catch Them All: Bluetooth Earbuds

For a fully immersive experience, you want to be able to hear the Pokemon when you tap on them.

It also wouldn’t hurt to have some music playing while you’re stomping around in search of Pokemon, even if it’s just the game’s soundtrack. You don’t want wires getting in the way and you definitely don’t want to be encumbered by a full-sized set of headphones — that would look dorky.

I’d suggest something like the Jaybird Freedom Bluetooth wireless headphones. You get good sound, up to 8 hours on a charge, they’re sweat-proof (you never know when you might have to dash to a PokeStop in 90-degree heat), comfortable and they’re so light you’ll forget you’re wearing them.

And once you get tired of playing the game, you’ll have a nice set of earbuds to enjoy.

Pokemon Go Accessories That Help You Catch Them All: Portable Battery Charger

It doesn’t matter what smartphone you use, iPhone, Android or even a BlackBerry — don’t laugh, people are doing it — battery life is one of your biggest enemies.

The all-day battery you used to take for granted can run down very quickly when you have the smartphone display cranked up so you can see it outdoors, with Google Maps and Pokemon Go running constantly.

Take away battery anxiety by carrying an external battery charger.

The Poseidon portable charger by Dark Energy would make a good choice. It’s incredibly rugged (meets the highest military standards for durability), waterproof and with 10,000 mAh of power, you can charge most smartphones several times over.

It also has a built-in LED light for nighttime safety and just in case you fall in hole or tumble down a ravine while chasing after an elusive Pokemon, it has SOS signaling capability.

Pokemon Go Accessories That Help You Catch Them All: High Visibility Safety Clothing

Do you know where you aren’t going to find many Pokemon lurking?

In the hospital.

Pokemon Go has led many players out into the streets and sometimes they are so focused on the game, they aren’t as careful as they should be with traffic. That’s led to a rash of incidents with players being hit by cars.

Because nothing saps your Pokemon Go success like being confined to a hospital bed, it’s worth committing a fashion faux pas in the name of safety.

High visibility safety clothing, with bright neon colors and plenty of reflective tape may not make players more careful, but it does make distracted players more visible to drivers. You can even find safety shorts, for summer comfort, complete with a cell phone pocket — in case your arm gets tired from holding your smartphone up for six straight hours.

Know someone who’s extremely focused on the game and oblivious to everything going on around them? You might want to consider handing them a helmet. Try painting it to look like a Pokeball to increase the likelihood that they’ll wear it.
