Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has announced that it’s partnering with the United Kingdom government for drone delivering testing.

Amazon, UK, Drone Delivery, AMZN

The partnership will allow Amazon to test new ways to conduct its drone delivery service with the help of the UK government. The effort will be conducted by a cross-government team working with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Three new methods of drone delivery will be tested out in the UK. They are as follows:

  • Testing of drone delivery in rural and suburban areas beyond the sight of the operator.
  • Performance tests to ensure that the company’s drones are able to navigate through areas while identifying and avoiding obstacles.
  • Drone delivery tests where a single individual will operate multiple drones that have highly automated actions.

The goal of these tests is to better understand how well drones can be used by Amazon for deliveries while still being safe. This will help influence future policies concerning drone deliveries. The CAA, which is the United Kingdom’s aviation safety regulator, will be monitoring the whole process.

“Using small drones for the delivery of parcels will improve customer experience, create new jobs in a rapidly growing industry, and pioneer new sustainable delivery methods to meet future demand,” Paul Misener, Amazon’s Vice President of Global Innovation Policy and Communications, said in a statement. “The UK is charting a path forward for drone technology that will benefit consumers, industry and society.”

Amazon has also been working to start drone deliverers in the United States, but it’s faced considerable challenge from the US government. Some changes have been made to help the company and we now have an idea as to how its drone delivery service would work.
