Roger Ailes was the CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, as well as the Chairman of Fox Television Stations. His resignation went into effect immediately, ending his twenty year run as the television network’s CEO.

Ailes has been replaced by Twenty-First Century Fox Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch, who will take over as Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. Murdoch founded News Corp. in 1979. The company split into the new News Corp (NASDAQ:NWS,NASDAQ:NWSA) and Twenty-First Century Fox in June 2013.

“Roger Ailes has made a remarkable contribution to our company and our country,” the new Fox News CEO said in a statement. “Roger shared my vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years.”

The end of Ailes’ time as the CEO of Fox News comes as he faces several sexual harassment allegations. Former Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit against him two weeks ago and journalist Megyn Kelly also said she had been sexually harassed by the former Fox News CEO.

Roger Ailes has denied the sexual harassment claims made against him, but this hasn’t stopped other women from stepping forward with their own claims. Several of the women making allegations against Ailes claim that the sexual harassment occurred before he founded Fox News as its CEO in 1996, reports USA Today.
