Why Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD), Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) and Sprint Corp (S) Are 3 of Today's Best StocksThe S&P 500 lost 0.3% while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.42%. The Nasdaq Composite lost just 0.05%.

On a rough day for stocks, Gilead Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:GILD), Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) and Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) gave investors reasons to cheer.

Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD)

Shares of biotechnology giant Gilead Sciences, Inc. rose 2.3% ahead of the company’s second-quarter earnings report after the close of U.S. markets today. In a note out Monday, S&P Global Market Intelligence analyst Jeffrey Loo reiterated a “strong buy” rating on GILD.

“Ahead of Q2 results we expect EPS of $2.92 vs. $3.15 on sales of $7.8B, a 5% decline as competition, volume discounts and shorter treatment duration weigh on hepatitis C (HCV) sales,” according to part of Loo’s note on GILD posted by Barron’s.

Last week, Morgan Stanley said it expects GILD post earnings of $2.80 a share on sales of $7.57 billion.

Netflix, Inc. (NFLX)

Netflix, Inc. advanced over 2% on news of a content sharing deal with Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. NFLX acquired the rights to stream FX’s critically acclaimed The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story show around the world, excluding Canada. NFLX also gains the rights to stream the second season of American Crime Story.

It is expected The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story will be available on NFLX when the second season of American Crime Story begins airing.

News of the deal with FX comes just a few days after NFLX saw its shares battered after delivering disappointing quarterly results that indicated some subscribers were leaving due to a modest increase in fees.

The deal with FX bolsters NFLX’s content library while bringing revenue to FX, which can be used for the production of more original programming.

Sprint Corp (S)

Shares of telecom provider Sprint Corp surged 28%-plus on more than seven times the average daily volume after the company reported a quarterly loss that was less than analysts expected. On an adjusted basis, S lost six cents a share. Analysts expected S to lose 8 cents per share in its most recently completed quarter.

S posted quarterly revenue of just over $8 billion, beating analysts’ estimates calling for revenue of $7.98 billion.

S added 173,000 postpaid subscribers in the quarter, double the number some analysts were expecting, according to the Wall Street Journal.
