A heat dome, which is when high pressure traps hot air beneath it, is covering the United States and it will bring triple-digit temperatures to some states.

Heat Dome

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be high over the weekend as the heat dome affects many areas of the United States. Friday will see temperatures above 100°F in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

Saturday will have many of the same states being hit by temperatures above 100°F. This includes Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. However, temperatures will be slightly down in these states compared to Friday as the heat dome moves east. This will have it hitting parts of South Carolina with 100°F temps.

The West Coast and Mid-West will see a further drop in temperatures on Sunday. However, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas will still have triple-digit temperatures. The East Coast will have Georgia and South Carolina with temps above 100°F.

Citizens living in Arizona, California and Nevada, will want to take special care over the weekend as some areas are expected to get temperatures above 110°F. While temps may not break past double digits in most of the United States, the majority of Americans will see temperatures in their states surpass 90°F.

President Barack Obama addressed the heat dome with a post on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR). He shared a temperature map for the United States and told citizens to “Stay safe as it heats up: Drink water, stay out of the sun, and check on your neighbors.”
