McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) is getting rid of a new toy that was designed to promote healthy living.

The burger chain launched fitness trackers in its Happy Meals to counteract its the fact that its food lacks nutrition with a product that helps you burn off calories. The trackers would measure your children’s steps, encouraging them to be active after eating one of their meals, most of which lack much nutritional content.

“Step-it is in line with McDonald’s general philosophy for Happy Meal toys, which is to make toys that encourage either physical or imagination-based play,” said the company’s Canada senior marketing manager when it was released.

However, the product has proven to be a hazard as it may cause skin irritations on those who wear it. McDonald’s is recalling the fitness trackers following a number of rashes that occurred after wearing the device–the exact number of injuries is unclear.

The trackers were already being distributed in the U.S. and Canada and they came in six different colors.

Last week, the company was urged by a health-conscious charity to stop selling food with antibiotics. ShareAction claimed that about up to 70% the antibiotics on beef, pork and poultry used in the U.S. can be linked to McDonald’s and other fast food chains.

The chain has been successful in Rio de Janeiro this summer due to a McCafe that is open in the Village, where Olympians reside and dine.

MCD stock is down 1.8% Friday.
