Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has launched the PlayStation 4 update 4.0, which includes slightly different user interface (UI).

PlayStation 4 Update 4.0The update is codenamed Shingen and it applies to gamers who are part of the console’s public beta program. The company will send an email to all members, detailing how to download the PS4 update.

In the company blog, Sony said the UI will include new digital backgrounds to give the gaming experience a new dimension. Additionally, the ‘What’s New’ tab is revamped and system icons have a different look.

The Quick Menu is quicker and more convenient for gamers, including a change that allows you to view the menu while playing a game. Previously, the menu took over the entire screen.

The Share Menu also has this advantage now with the PlayStation 4 update 4.0, only covering a portion of the screen. You can upload video clips that are up to 140 seconds long, topping the previous 10-second limit.

Organizing folders and library items is easier now, offering your preferred games and apps all in one place. Trophies can now be viewed offline as well as online, which is also an improvement.

The User Profile has been enhanced, offering you more essential information about your gameplay, including Trophy count and the option of adding a background image.

A rumor emerged recently suggesting that the next Sony console — nicknamed Neo or PlayStation 4.5 — will be launched at a Sept. 7 event announced by the company.
