The Harvest Moon 2016 will take place tonight.

Harvest Moon 2016

The Harvest Moon 2016 will be when the full moon occurs closest to the Autumnal Equinox, which is Sept. 22. This occurs once a year and it typically happens in September. However, there are times that it can happen in October as well. It gets its name from being the time when farmers would harvest crops.

The Harvest Moon 2016 will also be a special event for people living on certain parts of the planet. Those living in parts of Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe will be be able to see a lunar eclipse. This will be a penumbral lunar eclipse, which means that only part of the moon will be slightly darker. It’s also the last eclipse of the year, reports AccuWeather.com.

Those of us living in North America won’t be able to see the lunar eclipse for the Harvest Moon 2016. At least, not without some help. Slooh.com will be holding a live stream of the event on its website. The live stream starts at 12:45 a.m. Eastern Time and will last until 5:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The Harvest Moon 2016 will be at its fullest tonight at 3:05 p.m. Eastern Time. The moon will continue to appear close to full for the next couple of nights after this, but it won’t be considered a Harvest Moon anymore.

The penumbral lunar eclipse will also be the last lunar eclipse of a Harvest Moon for quite some time. The next lunar eclipse of any kind for a Harvest Moon isn’t set to occur until 2024.
