Auvi-Q: Inexpensive EpiPen Rival Coming in 2017

Auvi-Q is an EpiPen alternative that will soon be released.

The product helps to relieve intense allergic reactions and it is a cheaper alternative to EpiPen. Auvi-Q’s impending release was announced by manufacturer Kaleo Pharmaceuticals.

The move comes following EpiPen manufacturer Mylan NV (NASDAQ:MYL) hiking the price of its product to an astonishing $500 several years ago. The EpiPen is currently being investigated due to its price increase.

Kaleo Pharma is a much smaller company that hopes to revolutionize the allergy product market with the Auvi-Q epinephrine auto-injector, slated for a 2017 release. The two products work similarly, injecting a dose of epinephrine into the thigh of someone experiencing an allerginc reaction.

The Auvi-Q is smaller than the EpiPen, and it comes equipped with audio instructions that inform you how to administer the product. The company is also responsible for Evzio, an auto-injector for naloxone which helps to treat opioid overdoses.

The company claims that Auvi-Q inventor and Kaleo founder Eric Edwards said an inspection has proved that the product has 100-point quality as it consistently delivers on its promises.

Mylan is looking to become relevant in the industry once again by launching  generic version of EpiPen to the market for half the price. A two-pack of the product retails at $633 in several pharmacies.

It is unclear how much Auvi-Q will set you back but the company is not looking to have a product as expensive as the EpiPen.
