Facebook Messenger Instant Games: 7 Things to Know About the Feature

Facebook Messenger (NASDAQ:FB) is launching Instant Games, a new way to play games with your Messenger friends.

Facebook MessengerYou can essentially launch a game against anyone who you can chat with. Here are seven things to know about the multiplayer games offering:

  • The social media site created the feature using HTML5, a move that the company previously used in 2008 when games were being created for desktop computer. Eventually, the company focused on mobile.
  • Once you’re on Facebook Messenger, tap on the controller icon in a chat conversation and choose from a list of games.
  • At that point, you pick a game, you load it and you attempt to beat your opponent’s high scores.
  • There are a total of 17 games you can play.
  • The games inclue arcade shooter Galaga, space shooter Space Invaders, scrolling space ship shooter EverWing, paddle game Arkanoid, Scrabble game Words With Friends Frenzy, a puzzle game callled Hex FRVR, classic arcade game Pac-Man, card-flicking shooting gallery game Shuffle Cats Mini, word puzzle game Wordalot, 8-bit graphics timed Candy Crush Zookeeper, speed trial game Track & Field 100M, dots-style puzzle game Brick Pop, bubble shooter Bust-A-Move Blitz, puzzler 2020 Connect, three-style timed matching puzzle Templar 2048 and The Tribez: Puzzle Rush, which is similar to Candy Crush, but it has a dinosaur theme.
  • It exists for the latest versions of iOS and Android.
  • Facebook Messenger Instant Games is currently only available in 30 countries.

FB shares is down 2% Wednesday.
