National Harbor: MGM Resorts International (MGM) Opens DC-Area Casino

MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) is opening its National Harbor hotel and casino today.

National HarborThe $1.4 billion venture comes decked out with 308 rooms, a spa, restaurants with popular chefs such as a Voltaggio Brothers steak house, and a casino floor that is about 125,000 square feet, bigger than the White House. It includes a 3,000-seat arena where top pop stars will perform, as well as an outdoor pool, 50,000 square feet of meeting space and a chocolate fountain.

The company announced that the National Harbor locale is much classier than your typical Las Vegas or Atlantic City joint as it is located right outside of Washington, D.C. The MGM Resorts hotel is designed to look like one of the landmarks it is surrounded by, offering a view of the Reflecting Pool and other classic American buildings.

The casino will open at 11 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8. The resorts company is hoping that the National Harbor hotel will attract tourists, as it is located close to three major airports.

The artwork at the hotel is quite exquisite as well, including Bob Dylan’s first work of art featured in a public display in the form of a metal collage with an aquatic theme including Maryland crabs.. The musicians that will grace the stage at the MGM Resorts building include Bruno Mars, Boyz II Men, Cher and Duran Duran.

MGM shares fell 5.3% Thursday.
