Zsa Zsa Gabor

The movie and TV star was in her Los Angeles home when she died of heart failure. Here are nine things to remember the glamorous star by:

  • Zsa Zsa Gabor did not achieve the highest level of fame, but she was consistently great, acting for more than 40 years.
  • Her start took place in 1936 when she was named Miss Hungary. An acting career soon followed.
  • The Hungarian’s European accent and flair gave her a unique quality that the Hollywood elite welcomed quickly. She was easy to look at as well.
  • Gabor co-wrote a novel with Victoria Wolf in 1946, based partially on the actor’s real life.
  • One of her most iconic attributes was her search for true love that never ceased as she married nine men over the course of 75 years, up until her death. She was married to a Turkish diplomat, the hotel magnate Conrad Hilton, actor George Sanders, an industrialist, an oil magnate, a toy designer, a divorce lawyer and a man known as the Duke of Saxony. She also married a flash-in-the-pan Mexican actor for a day.
  • Her most recent husband is a German-American entertainer who is 27 years younger than her.
  • Gabor spent 72 hours in jail in 1989 after slapping a police officer who stopped her on the wheel with an expired license and a bottle of vodka in the front.
  • She invested part of her fortune in Bernie Madoff’s company, losing as much as $10 million with the company. There are no reports of her being a victim of a Ponzi scheme, according to a bankruptcy court.
  • Gabor had serious health problems in 2010 that led to a Catholic priest reading the actress her last rites, but she managed to survive thanks to a hip replacement a year later.

Rest in peace, Zsa Zsa Gabor.
