The Incredible Shrinking Market
June 27, 2008
Tobin Smith, ChangeWave Inner Circle
As of today's close, we were just under official bear market territory, meaning we've come down nearly 20% off our highs so far this year in the major market averages like the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) and the S&P 500 (SPX). In my book, that definitely qualifies as an incredible shrinking market.
Find the Bull, Beat the Bear
June 27, 2008Tobin Smith, WaveWire
As of today's close, the indexes are just below official bear market territory -- meaning we're down nearly 20% off our highs so far this year in the major averages like the Dow (DJI), which has fallen nearly 460 points in the past two days. The same big downside drivers -- including financial sector woes, plunging consumer confidence, rising inflation, high-profile earnings misses and, of course, those record-high oil prices -- continue to shake up the markets. A lot of you are probably worried, and understandably so, but let's look for opportunities instead of moping because of the headlines. Check out today's featured videos and articles to pick up some profitable tips that should help you beat back the bear.

Passion and Perseverance

It took Thomas Edison 3,000 tries to invent the light bulb. Without the first 2,999 tries (and the perseverance to continue trying) Edison would never have completed his invention. The same applies to you and me. Though we are not in hot pursuit of a new invention, we are trying to stay upright in a market that is trying to knock us off our feet. Blow by blow, we must stand firm in our resolve to succeed in a market where others have certainly failed–or at least bowed out before it capsized them completely.
Going North for Oil
June 19, 2008Robert Hsu, Asia Edge
Oil prices are on the rise, and demand for the resource is higher than ever. Major oil reserves are being maxed out, and to replace them, companies are frantically looking all over the earth for new sources of oil. Well, one company has found oil in Canadian oil sands, and I am recommending that you get in on this energy play before everyone else does, too.
Oil!
June 19, 2008Robert Hsu, Asia Edge
Oil prices are painfully high right now, and it seems as if the worst is yet to come. Morgan Stanley predicted that the price of oil would reach $150 per barrel within the next month, and I think that they could shoot even higher from there. Demand from emerging markets is putting a big pinch on supplies, and there is a general sense that we may have reached 'peak oil.' Read on for my analysis of this situation.
A Smart New Opportunity

While on the Beijing subway a few weeks ago, I noticed that there was at least on TV display inside every subway train. But it wasn't just ads that were flashing – there was programming, too. I thought combining the popularity of public transportation with content and ads was a smart move, and that's why I am watching a company that is responsible for it.
A Case of Mistaken Identity
April 15, 2008Robert Hsu, Asia Edge
Sometimes it seems like China and Japan are like two brothers switched at birth and have mistaken identities. So to better understand the difference between China and Japan, let's compare the two countries and see why China continues to offer a better investment environment than Japan. Let's use my recent visit there to take a look at each country's view on globalization.
