I'm not sure what world economists live in, but I wouldn't mind visiting it sometime. As anyone can see, the economy has gotten smacked around lately thanks to soaring food and energy prices. But the Federal Reserve doesn't think costlier corn and gasoline count as inflation. Instead, they focus on the 'core rate' of inflation which ignores food and energy. That's part of the reason why the Fed decided to leave interest rates unchanged yesterday.
