John Lansing looked at the chart of MSM, which is reporting earnings Wednesday, July 10. The TA says MSM going up. http://investorplace.com/247trader/is-this-stock-ready-to-run/

Are there any stocks reporting earnings that you’re trading this week?

None in particular, but I have a question. Does anyone know the best time to buy a stock for a pop from an earnings report? In other words, how far before earnings should one buy a stock, and how long after earnings are released and digested by investors should one sell?

A good yardstick is to look at the insiders trading before the earnings report is announced. If there are considerably more buys than sells, then there is a good chance that the stock will pop at report time. If the converse is true, then there is a good chance that the stock will tank. If the buys and sell are roughly equal, then it is a crap shoot. Once earnings are reported, it is too late for any viable play.
