An unnamed source tells CNN that Ashley Judd is still considering running for the U.S. Senate next year.
The actress has not yet decided whether to run. If she does, she will seek the Democrat nomination, ultimately challenging Kentucky’s senior Senator Mitch McConnell, a republican, in 2014.
Judd has signaled that she is interested in pursuing the senate seat, and recently addressed her concerns about public health in a speech at George Washington University. She has also created an email list of supporters and held meetings with potential donors, political pollsters and Democratic campaign organizers.
Last year, Judd served as a delegate at the Democratic National Committee. She strongly backed President Obama in the 2012 election. She holds a degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University
Republicans clearly consider Judd a potential threat. Her university speech drew criticism from a GOP staffer via Twitter and the McConnell campaign has included Judd in a commercial.
