john boehner 630 300x200 Boehner Remains Against Gay Marriage Despite Portman Flip[1]Despite last week’s abrupt about-face on the issue of gay marriage by Ohio U.S. Representative Rob Portman, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives is standing firm in his objection to same-sex nuptial[2]s.

In an interview on ABC’s This Week, John Boehner called Portman a “great friend and long-time ally,” but said that he remained adamant that the correct definition of marriage involved a man and a woman. He said the didn’t see that changing, Reuters noted.

Boehner is a member of the Roman Catholic Church, which has steadfastly rejected the idea of same-sex marriage.

Portman, who was considered a potential vice-presidential pick for Mitt Romney[3], announced his change of heart on the issue two years after learning that his son is gay. Last year, President Barack Obama publicly announced that he had changed his mind on the issue and voiced support for gay marriage.
