Christie Slams Doc Over Weight Concerns

Former White House physician said New Jersey governor could die if he doesn't lose weight

NewLetters Christie Slams Doc Over Weight ConcernsIf you’re trying to get on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s good side, don’t talk about his weight.

That was the lesson learned by former White House doctor Connie Mariano after she said Christie could die in office if he didn’t drop some pounds.

After Mariano’s comments on CNN, Christie fired back today.

“I find it fascinating that a doctor in Arizona who has never met me, never examined me, never reviewed my medical history or records, knows nothing about my family history, could make a diagnosis from 2,400 miles away. She must be a genius.”

Christie also called Mariano “just another hack who wants five minutes on TV.”

Mariano’s specific concerns about Christie’s health revolved around his chances of having either a heart attack or stroke due to his build. The interview, which was done in consideration of Christie possibly running for president in 2016, also mentioned he would be more likely to suffer from diabetes, sleep apnea, and heart disease because of his weight.

Christie had poked fun at his own girth on Monday during an appearance on the Late Show With David Lettermen. During the appearance, the two discussed Lettermen’s previous fat jokes at Christie’s expense, and the governor retrieved a jelly doughnut from his pocket mid-joke and began eating it.
