The Washington Post reports that Liz Cheney will be challenging incumbent Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi in the Republican primary.
Liz Cheney, 46, is using her youth as part of her campaign, proclaiming that it is time for a new generation to take over. Although she didn’t mention Enzi by name, it was an indirect blow at the 69-year-old senator who has held office since 1997.
Additionally, Liz criticized Enzi for not being a true conservative due to his willingness to negotiate with, and occasionally side with, Democrats.
Even though Wyoming incumbents have had a clear edge in past elections, Liz might prove to be a tough challenge for Enzi because of her and her father’s history with the Bush administration. Whereas her father served two terms as vice president for Bush, Liz herself was a part of the U.S. State Department during the same government.
