With general election season approaching fast, and political pundits waiting with bated breath to see who Mitt Romney will select as his vice presidential candidate, attention will return yet again to one of the Republican Party’s rising stars: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. And while he has denied interest in being VP, that will do little to quell speculation. Neither will the fact he has a biography forthcoming.
There is quite a bit that many people don’t know about the politician, though. Here are five of the more interesting facts, as gathered by Politico:
Rubio has been quoted as saying the ’70s were a “very frightening time” where “we had to overcome disco, and bell bottoms, and the Bee Gees.”
Since leaving the state legislature of Florida in 2008, he has been a professor at Florida International University in Miami.
A former Miami Dolphins cheerleader, to be exact. His wife, Jeanette Dousdebes-Rubio, was in the team’s first swimsuit calendar.
As a youth, he attended Latter Day Saints youth groups and was a huge Osmonds fan. Later in his youth, he converted to Catholicism.
For one year, anyway. Rubio attended Tarkio College in Missouri for one year, before transferring to Santa Fe Community College. Eventually, he wound up at the University of Florida, where he graduated from in 1993. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami in 1996.
