The agency has said[2] that the e-mail is a phishing scam and it has nothing to do with the IRS. “Your reported 2013 income is flagged for review due to a document processing error,” reads the e-mail.

“Your case has been forwarded to the Taxpayer Advocate Service for resolution assistance,” continues the e-mail. “To avoid delays processing your 2013 filing contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service for resolution assistance.”

Taxpayers who receive the e-mail should avoid responding it or clicking on any of the links attached to it. Additionally, the IRS is asking taxpayers to forward the scam e-mails to the agency at phishing@irs.gov.
