“The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart and “The O’Reilly Factor” host Bill O’Reilly are putting aside (some of) their ideological differences to meet in a presidential-style debate on October 6.
The event, being billed as “The Rumble in the Air Conditioned Auditorium”, will be taking place at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. It will be a 90-minute debate on campaign issues, with questions coming from audience members and former “Fox News Live” host E.D. Hill.
Tickets were on sale for $75 to $100, with a limited number of $25 student tickets, but the event appears to have already sold out. However, the event will be available for live streaming online for $4.95. Half the proceeds will go to charity.
The event will be held three days after the first presidential debate between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, and five days before the vice presidential debate between Paul Ryan and Joe Biden.
Both participants have put out press releases trumpeting their participation in the event — sort of. Bill O’Reilly’s press release humorously asked, “How can I get out of it?”, with the host claiming “I had no idea my agent signed me up for this.” Stewart’s release was similarly funny.
“I’m excited to debate Mr. O’Reilly. I believe this will be a very enjoyable night for fans of our programs, political junkies, partisans and people who just enjoy yelling.”
More information on the event can be found at its official web site, www.therumble2012.com.
