President Barack Obama was caught taking a selfie at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service on Tuesday.
President Obama was photographed as he squeezed in for a selfie with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at the service being held in South Africa. First Lady Michelle Obama didn’t take part in the selfie and is instead seen looking away from the group, reports The Christian Science Monitor.
The photo of Obama’s selfie made its way around the web and was met with criticism.
“I would have thought you would have more class than to take a selfie at a funeral? I expect better of ‘World Leaders’,” “Incredibly disrespectful,” and “only @BarackObama would take a selfie during a memorial service for #NelsonMemorial . No manners,” are a few of the Tweets criticizing the President’s behavior.
The president even earned himself a spot on the Tumblr “Selfies at Funeral.” Jason Feifer, the creator of the Tumblr, announced that he will be closing the group now that he has posted Obama’s selfie. He claims that there is “nobody bigger in the world that could have taken a selfie at a funeral,” reports The Los Angeles Times.
