President Barack Obama is taking inspiration from Abraham Lincoln again for his second inauguration ceremony on Jan. 21.
According to members of the Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, Obama will be sworn in for his second term as president with a ceremony centered on the theme “Faith in America’s Future.”
Organizers intend to draw on the fact that 2013 will be the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the completion of the Capitol dome’s exterior.
Obama follows closely in the footsteps of his 2009 inauguration, which had the theme “A New Birth Of Freedom.” This drew from Lincoln’s words in the Gettysburg address. It was also noted by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., that the inauguration happened in the same year as Lincoln’s birth.
