The uniform change would cost over $8 million

NewLetters Possible Change to Marine Uniform Causes OutcryA possible change to Marine uniforms has caused an outcry from displeased Marines.

According to Fox News, the Obama administration is looking to change the hats, called “covers” by Marines, that is worn by Marines to make a more unisex look. This would result in all Marines wearing the same hat that is currently worn by female Marines, who make up about 5% of the group. The change to the marine uniform will be the first major one made in over 90 years. The female caps cost $82 as compared to $32 for the male cap. This change would cause the Marines to spend an additional $8,221,958 on hats. If the Marines switched everyone to the male cap is would save them $284,045. The unisex cap is also being blasted for making male Marines look more feminine.

“We don’t even have enough funding to buy bullets, and the DoD is pushing to spend $8 million on covers that look like women’s hats!” a senior Marine source told The New York Post. “The Marines deserve better. It makes them look ridiculous.”
