The hatred between parties on Capitol Hill is deeper than ever, Politico reports — sources say House Speaker John Boehner apparently told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “Go F**k Yourself” just a few days before a deal was reached.
The incident occurred last Friday in the White House lobby as the two were arriving to continue discussions about averting the fiscal cliff. Several sources told Politico that Boehner delivered the remark, then repeated it to the surprised Reid.
It should be pointed out that Reid had just spoken to the media, accusing Boehner of being more concerned with keeping his Speakership rather than getting a deal done.
The fiscal cliff was averted last night as the House voted to approve a Senate bill that was negotiated by Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. While the Senate republicans approved the deal handily, the House was more contentious. Two Republican leaders — Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy — voted against it. In the end, the bill passed 257-167, with 151 Republicans voting against.
