Eleven Secret Service agents visited a brothel in Colombia last Wednesday while preparing for President Barack Obama’s visit to the South American nation, according to a recently released report.
While visiting the brothel, which was located in a part of Colombia where prostitution is legal, the agents allegedly bragged about working for Obama, claimed that they protected him, drank whiskey, and hired prostitutes.
They might have gotten away with it, too, if there hadn’t been a dispute over how to settle the group’s tab. This argument spilled out into the street, which led to the police being called.
Yesterday, the 11 agents had their security clearances revoked as a result of the incident. Additionally, five members of the military were also alleged to have been involved in the incident, and are facing scrutiny.
The scandal cast an unfortunate pall on Obama’s visit to Colombia for the Summit of the Americas on April 14-15, which is designed to bring together leaders from Western Hemisphere nations to “discuss discuss common policy issues, affirm shared values and commit to concerted action”, according to their web site.
