NewLetters Tea Party E mail Includes Image of Rove As Nazi[1]A Tea Party group was forced to apologize today for an e-mail sent out under its name including an image of Republican strategist Karl Rove dressed as a Nazi[2].

Jenny Beth Martin, the co-founder and national coordinator of the group Tea Party Patriots, released a statement that said the picture was distributed without the group’s knowledge or approval.

“The image … was inappropriate, wrong, and we have ordered them to immediately cease further use of the image,” she said in her statement.

The e-mail was originally sent with a subject of “Wipe That Smirk Off Rove’s Face”, and was meant primarily as a fundraising pitch for the Tea Party Patriots. Martin said an outside vendor, Active Engagement, was responsible for sending the message.

That vendor said that the Nazi image was obviously photo-shopped, and that they had selected it by mistake from a group of images available online. It was next to an image that the group had approved for the message.

Rove has been catching heat from the Tea Party because of his efforts to support GOP congressional primaries with his new organization, the Conservative Victory Project. Some right-wing critics, the Tea Party Patriots included, have said he is interfering with the will of voters and directly “challenging” Tea Party groups.

It is highly doubtful, though, that they wished for their criticism to be as strident as comparing him to a Nazi.
