Kraft Denies It Ran Controversial Ad

It says an ad showing a breast-feeding, Oreo-toting baby wasn't meant for the public


Kraft (NYSE:KFT) has denied reports that an advertisement for its iconic Oreo cookie that shows a breast-feeding baby with the caption “Milk’s Favorite Cookie” ever ran in any market.

MSNBC reported that advertising agency Cheil Worldwide created the ad.

The ad’s image made it on to the Internet, prompting considerable discussion on advertising website and forums. It showed a baby sucking at a woman’s exposed nipple while holding an Oreo cookie in its hand.

Some websites and media outlets claimed that the ad had been run in South Korea. In a statement, Kraft flatly rejected the claims, saying that it had not produced the ad and that it was never run on any commercial media outlets.

“This ad was created by our agency for a one-time use at an advertising forum,” a spokesperson for Kraft told celebrity gossip website TMZ. “The ad was never intended for public distribution or use with consumers.”
