5 Best Sectors to Watch This Week

The Leisure Goods, Water Utilities, Infrastructure, Household Products, and Specialty Retail sectors are on the rise this week on the Portfolio Grader[1] database.

Leisure Goods is excelling, with 88% of stocks in the sector (7 out of 8) rating a “buy.” Smith & Wesson (NASDAQ:SWHC[2]), LeapFrog (NYSE:LF[3]), and Arctic Cat (NASDAQ:ACAT[4]) are all currently earning A’s. Over the last 12 months, LeapFrog is the best performer in this sector, with a 197% decline. This is better than the S&P 500, which has seen a 26.9% increase over the same period.

Water Utilities is thriving this week with 80% of stocks in the sector (4 out of 5) currently rating a “buy.” With overall grades of A, American Water Works (NYSE:AWK[5]), American States Water (NYSE:AWR[6]), and Aqua America (NYSE:WTR[7]) are buoying the sector. American States Water bests the other stocks in its sector, with a 32.1% increase from a year ago.

Infrastructure stands out with 80% of the sector’s stocks (4 out of 5) rating a “buy.” Among Infrastructure stocks, Macquarie Infrastructure (NYSE:MIC[8]), Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (NYSE:ASR[9]

), and Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (NASDAQ:OMAB[10]) are leading the way with A’s. Over the last 12 months, Macquarie Infrastructure is the best performer in this sector, with a 81.1% increase.

The Household Products sector’s track record is proving one of the best with 70% of its stocks (7 out of 10) rating a “buy.” Kimberly-Clark (NYSE:KMB[11]), Spectrum Brands Holdings (NYSE:SPB[12]), and Church & Dwight (NYSE:CHD[13]) are lifting the sector overall, each earning a high grade of A. Spectrum Brands Holdings is the top stock in its sector, with a 71.4% increase from 12 months ago.

The Specialty Retail sector is thriving on Portfolio Grader this week, with 70% of its stocks (48 out of 69) currently rating a “buy.” Out of the Specialty Retail stocks, Lumber Liquidators (NYSE:LL[14]), GNC Holdings (NYSE:GNC[15]), and PetSmart (NASDAQ:PETM[16]) are out front with A’s. Lumber Liquidators is the best performer in this sector, with a 276% increase in the last 12 months.
