Boeing Wins $3.3B Order From Japan’s All Nippon Airways

Boeing (NYSE:BA) has landed an order for 11 Dreamliner 787-9 jets worth $3.3 billion from a Japanese airline.

All Nippon Airways (PINK:ALNPY) will use the new jets on its international flights. The airline said it was realizing fuel savings with the 787’s on flights to Germany, and plans to add 787 jets to more routes, including flights to Seattle, Washington, San Jose, California and Beijing, China, Bloomberg noted.

Shares of Boeing slipped fractionally in early Friday morning trading.

The eleven jets in the order will be delivered between 2018 and 2021.

With the new planes, All Nippon Airways fleet of 787’s will grow to a total of 66, with 30 B787-9 jets and 36 B787-8 jets.

The airline was the first commercial carrier to purchase Boeing’s Dreamliner jets, and remain’s the largest customer for the planes. Of the 55 planes previously ordered, 13 have been delivered to date.

The race to top global commercial jet sales has been fierce between Boeing and its European rival EADS Airbus. Late last month, Boeing lost a $7 billion order for as many as 100 new jets for Philippine Airlines to Airbus.
