Click to EnlargeUSA TODAY, the flagship newspaper of Gannett (NYSE:GCI[1]), has rolled out a new redesign across both its print and digital forms as the paper hopes to spark a revival on its 30th birthday.
Among some of the new features:
The national newspaper’s circulation has dwindled with the rest of the industry in past years, slipping from a peak of 2.3 million five years ago to 1.8 million today. However, Larry Kramer — brought in from MarketWatch to be
USA TODAY‘s new president and publisher — is hoping to spark renewed interest in the paper through widespread changes.
Despite widespread turmoil in the newspaper industry, shares of Gannett — which, in addition to being the nation’s largest newspaper publisher, also has media outlets in television and the Internet — have remained resilient, returning 18% since the beginning of 2010, though still behind the 32% gains of the S&P 500.
