At age 50, fast-food chain Taco Bell (NYSE:YUM) is getting a makeover. Perhaps as part of its “rivalry” with Chipotle (NYSE:CMG), Taco Bell is launching a new look for its eateries.

Rolling out in six new locations in Colorado, Texas and California, the redesigned outlets sport a more modern, sleeker look with metal slats covering one wall, according to The Huffington Post. At night, purple lights will shine through the slats and be visible up to a quarter-mile away.

Restaurant interiors are also being redesigned. The new, minimalist look hopes to capitalize on the recent success of product launches such as the upscale Cantina Bell menu.

Executives at the chain also indicated that the new design will be easier and cheaper to build, and that elements of the new design will be rolled out to existing locations
