Get your pencils ready, crossword lovers — for the first time in a decade, The New York Times Co. (NYSE:NYT) is redesigning The New York Times‘ online crossword section.
The venerable newspaper wants to make the crossword the center of its online puzzle section, and it will entice new users by offering access to the puzzle section for one month at no cost.
Existing New York Times subscribers, both online and hardcopy, can access Premium Crosswords for $3.97/month or $19.97/year. Paid customers will have access to the daily crossword, Sunday Magazine puzzles and more than 5,000 archived puzzles and solutions.
Among the changes made in the redesign:
New features will continue to be introduced to the section over time. Some of those will be competitive play, social media integration and mobile apps.
