Pinterest: Now You Can Pin … Privately

New 'secret boards' allow users to control visibility

Responding to popular demand, social media site Pinterest is adding a new feature — “secret boards” — to its service.

Secret boards, which went live Thursday, allow users to manage exactly what can be seen and by whom. Each user is able to create three secret boards that begin as private but can be shared by invitation. Users can also make a private board public whenever they wish.

However, users cannot make a public board private. That’s because items on a public board may already have been shared by other users.

Pinterest users will be able to create secret boards from their computers and their mobile devices, provided they’ve downloaded the latest app for their Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS or Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android devices.

The company has also updated its privacy policy with new information about the new functionality. Users will be notified to familarize themselves with it.
