49ers Fans Victim of Super Bowl Ticket Scam

They're out $5,900 for what they thought would be four tickets

A con man in Baltimore swindled a Hayward, Calif., couple hoping to buy Super Bowl XLVII tickets … and rubbed it in.

The couple hoped to get tickets to the upcoming game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, reports The San Jose Mercury News. After searching online, they agreed to purchase four tickets for $5,900 from a reported season ticket holder in Baltimore.

After wiring the money, the thief didn’t send them the tickets. Instead, when the package arrived at their Northern California home, all that was inside was a picture of the two quarterbacks, Joe Flacco and Colin Kaepernick, and the words “Enjoy the game!!!! Go Ravens!!! LOL.”

The couple purchased the tickets after seeing an ad on Craigslist, which prominently features a warning that purchasers should be wary of scammers and should not wire money.

Even after suffering the con, the couple is still happy that the 49ers are in the Super Bowl. Said one of them: “Do we want to let this affect our celebration of our team going to the Super Bowl? We need to get past that.”
