Casey Anthony $800K in Debt, Files for Bankruptcy

Former murder suspect files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection

Casey Anthony — the woman who was acquitted of murder charges surrounding her infant daughter’s death — has filed for bankruptcy.

The Chapter 7 filing comes as a result of the case, CBS News is reporting. In the filing, Anthony reports having about $1,000 in assets and almost $800,000 in debt. The debt stems from her attorney’s costs during her media-soaked trial and numerous other bills and judgments.

In the filing, Anthony claims to be unemployed and to have no income.

Casey Anthony became an involuntary celebrity when she was accused of killing her infant daughter, Caylee. While she was not convicted of the killing, the jury did find her guilty of lying to police. Her sentence for the misdemeanor conviction was limited to her time served while on trial.

Anthony continues to have trouble in the courts. She is the target of several civil suits stemming from her previous trial.
